Foreword

The joy I find in color and design combined with the monotype’s physicality, lack of boundaries, and limitless potential for interpretation pulled me mercilessly into this intriguing discipline.  A former assistant reference publisher at an international academic publishing house, I am an artist by training and writer by passion.  I began to paint with words at the age of seven, and never looked back.

Monoprints incorporate very well into genre of miniature unique artist’s books.  My love of words and their images merge with the joy of color and design to produce a wonderful synergy; a calligraphed quote or verse reflecting the essence of the abstract image.

My monoprints have been accessioned by the Boston Public Library for its American Printmaking Collection; are in private collections in the US, England and Japan; and as cover art for literary journals.  I designed and taught “The Art of Calligraphy” at various Massachusetts Adult Education Programs and Senior Centers.  Among private collections of my calligraphy, a commemorative book for their minister’s service was commissioned by a New England Lutheran church; other calligraphed works are in private collections in the US, UK, and Japan.

Over the years, I have published poetry, op-ed pieces, fiction, and creative non-fiction for trade journals. In 2008 “Henry’s Fence”, a short story, appeared as the lead story in the premise-driven literary journal, THEMA; and in 2010 their 20th anniversary cover art was my monoprint entitled, “Catch a Falling Star, and…”  In 2012 my monoprint “Elbow Beach IV” was chosen for the cover of the South Shore Writers' Club’s biennial anthology.

All of these works span a lifetime of artistic intensity and diligence.  I inherited my artistic talent from my mother, an artist in her own right and my first and most ardent fan, who constantly nurtured both my art and my writing.
